Abortion: A Woman's Right...Or Not?

Abortion, legalized in 1973 by the Supreme Court in a case called Roe vs. Wade, is a controversial issue. Some say yes, some say no. Some say it is a woman's right to do as she pleases, it is her body. Some say this right is not right, it involves the killing of a live person. What do you think? Is abortion considered murder? Do you think that once a fetus's heart beat can be heard, it is alive? Is a baby alive from the moment of conception?

What about the psychological effects on a woman after aborting a baby? Is this the answer? Should abortion legalized only in severe cases such as rape or physical or mental incapacities?

There is also much controversy about government funding of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood not only performs abortion but offers preventive health care such as cancer screening, breast exams and birth control. There are states that are passing a law stating that an ultrasound be performed before an abortion be performed. What is your opinion?

Some facts that I have gathered are listed below:

1.) Over 52,000,000 abortions have been performed since it was legalized in 1973.
2.) There are approximately 4,000 abortions performed daily.
3.) The percentages of abortions are highest for African American women and teenagers.

I am pro-life. I believe that babies should be allowed to live. I was given the choice in 1980 because of health reasons. I chose not to have an abortion. I met a young man while taking a class called Issues in Family Policy. He said he was personally responsible for 5 abortions. I know women who have had an abortion. They don't talk about it. Are they affected psychologically? Do they have nightmares? Feelings of guilt? Fears of being punished by God? Possibly.

The Bible says, in Jeremiah 1:5, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you." God said in Genesis1:26, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness." Doesn't this tell us that babies are human beings from the moment of conception?

There are so many babies in heaven today who have been aborted. Are they our future teachers, preachers, governors, or lawmakers? Suppose they could make their voices heard! Their cries from heaven can't be heard though, only imagined.

For all I have a purpose, for all I know their dreams,

for all I have the answers to everything.  I know the fiber

of their very being, I know what they're made of.  I formed

them and designed them from heaven above.

I don't feel anyone should have the right to impose their beliefs on others. We all must find our own path to heaven. I am pro-life...that does not mean I am pro abortion.

The fight for life should extend as vigorously for the two million children who go to bed hungry everynight; the millions who are homeless and abused. The fight should also be to stop dropping bomb on innocent children in foreign lands and imprisoning and putting people to death.

Very good. The right to live is the most basic right there is. No one can deny that fact in truth. I wrote a hub in November of 2008 about abortion. The first thing anyone wrote in the comments was about how men shouldn't even write or talk aboput abortions.

Anyway, the link to it is http://hubpages.com/hub/whydidntigetachance if you want to check it out. I wrote it to help those who had an abortion. It was an attempt to help them heal and recieve forgiveness.

And here I thought it was "too touchy" a subject to talk about! I really just wanted to help women to know about the emotional consequences of abortion...and show them how God feels about it. Thanks for reading.

Every person has an innate sense of right and wrong even though it is deeply hidden in many. In the secret recesses of one's heart, I believe everyone knows abortion is wrong. No matter how much they protest, life is so sacred that they must feel it within.

I do not believe in abortion for any reason. The baby can always be placed for adoption if the mother cannot or does not wish to raise the child.

Yes, I agree. Everyone deserves a chance to live. I just finished writing "Merrytime Weather...a Poem" with a you tube link. This wonderful praise and worship CD reminded me of this hub. The graphics and words are so touching. Hope you can listen to it.

As a parent who struggled through several uncontrollable losses, I weigh in here with a heavy heart. I think everyone has a choice, it's not a choice I would make and didn't.

I've endured a stillborn, several (9)miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy all in the desire to be a parent. I've awakened from surgery after a loss to see a baby found in critical condition after being placed in a garbage dumpster and begged God to give me that baby.

I was forced to consider abortion with my youngest child. I had severe pneumonia in ICU and told I would have to have an abortion or we both would die. I had to make a choice to leave my two girls without a mother or die. It was a difficult decision, but even then...I DECIDED I'D DIE FIRST, before I'd live my life knowing I destroyed a baby. God would take care of it and if he didn't, that was HIS plan and my daughters would understand someday.

I will say, if someone in that same type of circumstance, chose to abort to be a parent to their other children, I could not have bad feelings towards them. It was a grueling and testing decision for me to make and I wavered half a dozen times.

Oh, so sad! I've not had to endure a miscarriage but know many who have! I'm so sorry you had to go through so much heartache to have a baby! I only know that I said no to an abortion and kept on trying, only to lose my little Amy. I knew the Lord would watch over me, even if my life was in danger! We are definitely 2 mothers who didn't abort their babies. The Lord did give me 2 more babies, one 6 years later and another 2 years after that. I am blessed with 5 children, all grown now and all healthy and happy. Praise the Lord!
