Sexual Immorality: You've Gotta Watch Those Alligator Eyes!
69
Do you have eyes for someone else? Do you know how much trouble this can cause if you are married? 1 Corinthians 10:8 says, "let us not commit sexual immorality." The warning is, get rid of those alligator eyes!
If you've ever tried swimming in a lake in Florida you know that it can be dangerous! There are alligators in those lakes! An alligator can come up on you before you know it. I heard about an elderly woman who was fishing in one of our 30 some odd lakes. She had her dog with her and an alligator came up and grabbed the dog before she even knew it. She started beating the alligator with her fishing pole and saved her dogs life!
I saw a man on the news last night who had been attacked by an alligator. He had over a hundred stitches in his face and a tube coming out of his neck to drain the infection. Some of us are infected by our "alligator eyes". Some people call them roaming eyes. Flirting with danger is what I call it and alligators are dangerous! They'll come on you with no notice. They'll bite you without warning. This all relates to sexual immorality. It is dangerous and will only cause trouble in a marriage!
You can get away from an alligator though. If one comes on shore and chases you just run in a zig zag line. Alligators can only run in a straight line. My grandchildren and I were visiting a park here in our city and we were walking near the water. I warned them about the alligators and showed them how to run away from an alligator. We practiced running in a zig zag line. Now they know how to get away.
I've seen the danger at work...a nice looking guy (or maybe a not so nice looking guy!) notices a pretty woman. Next thing you know he's hanging around her desk. She's married but not so happy in her marriage. This handsome guy gives her some attention, attention she can't ignore. Next thing you know they're having lunch together. (Maybe he's married too!) Then their sneaking off to the copy room when they think no ones watching. Next thing you know they're having an affair. Then a month or so later I noticed that the guy is checking out someone else. The first woman is miserable. She's looking a little piqued, red eyes and all. Then we get a wedding invitation in the mail. We attend the wedding and the poor first lady is there. She's making some snide remarks about the groom. She hates him, she's jealous...but whose fault is it? She never should have crossed the line of danger. She never should have fed him in the first place. The signs at one of our biggest parks says, "Danger, Alligators" and "Don't Feed the Alligators". If you want to stay out of danger, keep your nose clean! Don't cross the line in the first place!
