I bought a book a year or so ago called "Angel Unaware." The author is Dale Evans Rogers. The book is about Roy Rogers and Dale Evans baby girl, Robin Elizabeth, who was born in August, 1950, and died in August, 1952, just a few months before my birthdate. Robin was just 2 years old when she went to Heaven. She was born with Down Syndrome, but she died from mumps encephalitis.

This book, "Angel Unaware" is written by Dale Evans, but the entire book is in the voice of Robin, as an angel from Heaven. She relates the events from her birth to the day she went to heaven, calling Earth "Down There" and Heaven, "Up Here". Robin says that it was the Lord's plan that she be born handicapped to change the hearts of the Rogers family and also the doctors, nurses, and other caretakers . When she sees that Roy is spending more time reading his Bible and praying, she says, "Father, it is all going according to Your plan." When Dale begins to have less of an interest in her career, wanting to stay home with her, she says, "Father, it's all going according to Your plan."

Robin says that the entire family's faith was strengthened by caring for and loving her, "all according to plan." She says that one of the doctor's who cared for her started Theological school so that he could be of more help to families with handicapped children, it was all going "according to plan." She says the same thing when her mother, Dale, said they must start a charity fund for handicapped children, "it's all going according to plan."

These are the words describing baby Robins voyage to Heaven. "You came and I felt myself being lifted up. What a moment that was! Everything was bright with light, and there was a sound like the rustling of a million angel's wings, and there was singing everywhere. My old clay shell just fell off, and my heart began beating strong and steady."

Although this is Dale Evans book, she relates it to us as if she is Robin. She says at the end of the book, "We did pretty well in that room in my little house, Father. We taught them to see purpose in pain, and messages on the crosses they have to carry around." She also says in one of the last paragraphs, "They're a lot stronger since they got Our message. There's a new glory inside them and in everything around them, and they've made up their minds to give it to everyone they meet. The sun is much brighter now."

The last sentence in the book says, "And now, Father, please...could I just go out and try my wings?"

I found this book, "Angel Unaware" in an antique store and bought it for $1.50! I collect old books. This one was written in 1953, a year after Robin died. I hope that you will read this book too, and enjoy this moving story of Robin Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Rogers. Happy trails to you!
