Chicken Little, Humpty Dumpty and Tweety Bird

Chicken Little

Awhile ago I wrote a hub called "Ode to the Camphor Tree" and today I would like to tell you a little bit more about that camphor tree. I walked out my front door this afternoon, ran back in, and said to my husband, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!" What in heaven's name was falling from the sky? Thousands of little purple berries, that's what! They were making this "ker-plunk, ker-plunk" noise as they hit the sidewalk, the driveway, our vehicle and our roof! We surely can't walk down the sidewalk or the driveway without squashing those little purple berries under our feet. Then, of course we'll track them in the house. No matter if we wipe our feet, they'll still manage to come, unwanted, into our house.

If you think Chicken Little thought the sky was falling when an acorn fell from the great oak tree, then I am inclined to think that many skies are falling. "Oh, Lord, I prayed, if only they were blueberries. Or cherries for that matter. Oh, what a blessing that would be! I would be out there gathering them into pots and pans and bags and boxes! I would be making a pie or some jam or having them on my cereal in the morning! But no, these little purple berries are not to be eaten. They carry a sign with them that says, "do not eat!" Instead we just sweep them away or squash them under our feet...

Humpty Dumpty

Oh, poor Humpty! He sat on that wall waiting! Waiting for what? He obviously wasn't waiting for the sky to fall! He wasn't waiting for Chicken Little to come along down the path to tell him the sky was falling! But he was waiting... Poor Humpty might have been looking up and lost his balance, causing him to fall off the wall. Thank God, all the kings horses and all the kings men came along to help put him back together again! But help as they may, they couldn't figure out how to do it!

And so I also sit, waiting for a miracle...waiting for the fruit to fall from my camphor tree so that I may bake a pie. But unfortunately, it's just not going to happen. No matter how hard I pray, I am not going to see blueberries fall from a camphor tree. It just doesn't happen that way. I am going to have to wait, just as Humpty Dumpty waited. For what? For blueberry season, of course!

Tweety Bird

Then here comes Tweety Bird. He tawt he taw a puddy tat! And he did! He ran around and around the house trying to stay away from that awful puddy tat! He was trying to stay safe because sooner or later he was going to be breakfast or lunch for nasty old Sylvester. Sylvester was hungry for some pretty little birdie! As long as Tweety Bird stayed in his cage he was safe. That nasty puddy tat couldn't get at him! Poor Tweety Bird! His life must have been spent in terror, never knowing if or when the puddy tat was going to eat him up!

Tweety Bird wasn't running around telling the world some crazy story like Chicken Little was. Nor was he sitting on a wall waiting like Humpty Dumpty was. He was saying it like it was. He was telling the truth of the matter. He was doing what we should do. After all, we can't get blueberries from a camphor tree. We shouldn't be telling people that something's going to happen that's not! And we certainly shouldn't be sitting around waiting for something to happen that may never happen! Poor Humpty got nowhere waiting. Except in trouble, that is...

fantastic hub SuzieQ42! It was great to reveal these amazing meanings behind the laughs. Watching a movie when you are young is always entertaining, but when we are young, we tend to overlook the deeper meaning and simply look for the entertainment. Thanks for sharing!

I'm so glad you liked it, Jon. Yes, it's good to look at things from another viewpoint isn't it? There's a lesson in everything if we look for it!
