Organize Your Home Without Spending A Cent
89
Organizing your home doesn't have to cost a lot of money! Use common everyday objects that you already have to help keep belongings clean and neat. I've written other hubs about organizing our homes, so when I received these ideas in my email I thought I would share them with you.
1.) Sheets: Aren't you sick of trying to fold sheets neatly so they'll look nice when stored in the linen closet? Especially the fitted sheets! Sometimes my arms get so tired trying to hold them up and fold them neatly I think they are going to fall off. Well, it's time to quit trying so hard and start organizing my home to make my job easier. By keeping them in a matching pillow case, even when the folding job's not so great, you can hide the bulges and bumps! Look at this photo to see how neat they look! Not only that but the whole set is kept together so you don't have to dig through a stack of mismatched pillow cases and sheets looking for mates.
2.) Use a shower cap: For the traveler, try placing dirty shoes in a shower cap to keep your clothing clean when packing to go away. There always seems to be dirt on the soles of our shoes and packing them in a suitcase can result in dirty clothing. Put this handy hint to work to keep your clothes clean while traveling!
3.) Plastic bread ties: All of us who have computers, especially desktop PC's, put up with a mess of cords running here and there behind the computer. I dread moving my computer from one place to another because I never know which cord goes where! Here's a great way to solve that problem. Tag each cord by writing on plastic bread ties before moving your computer or even hooking up a new printer. This is a cost free way to avoid a big headache! I already save my bread twisters, so maybe it's time to save the plastic bread ties too.
4.) Velcro: Mom and dads, check this out. What a great way to keep those stuffed animals in order. Use velcro attached to the wall to hang babies buddy's up so there's no more stuffing them in a closet or toy box. All of your children's stuffed animals are lined up neatly in a row to keep them organized! For everything from stuffed animals to puppets or even slippers, this is a great idea.
5.) Muffin tins: Try this handy idea to help organize your home. Pull those muffin tins out of the cupboard and put them to good use! Place plastic cups into the muffin tins and store pencils and pens, paint brushes, scissors and other craft and office supplies. How colorful they look, and useful too! Just place them on a shelf or desk and grab when needed. Put an end to wasting time looking for these items when you're in a hurry.
6.) Wrapping paper: How clever is this? I've moved wrapping paper around in my closet when trying to get out a box of Christmas decorations. Every roll of wrapping paper falls down, flat on the floor. If it's not flat on the floor then it's tangles up in something else and ends up being torn. With the use of tiny screws and a wire, you can now keep your wrapping paper neat and tidy. This free organizational method works wonderfully and you still have room to place a box or plastic storage container in front of them, giving you more storage space!
7.) Gift boxes: Looky here! What a great way to serve cupcakes. You remember how messy they can be when placed on a plate or platter, don't you? By cutting an X in the top of a gift box cover you can easily serve cupcakes without the mess! Try this at a school function or birthday party! Great idea to cut down on cleaning time.
8.) Magnetic strips: This clever idea keeps bathroom articles organized! Simply glue the magnetic strip to the wall, inside a closet or even inside the medicine cabinet and attach items like bobby pins, barrettes, or even tweezers to keep track of them. They are not only organized but also easy to get to. There's no more digging through baskets and boxes looking for everyday bath items. It's time to start organizing my home so it's easier to find these small items that I keep in the bathroom.

A couple of these I will definitely use. What great and easy-to-do ideas! The magnetic strip is great - I will put this inside my bathroom cabinet door; I'm always looking for those darn tweezers! And the sheet idea - so simple, it's fabulous. Thanks!
I love the muffin tin idea. My granddaughter loves to paint and has an easel with all the trappings. Her dad is at his wits end in trying to help her contain everything. I definitely will go buy a muffin tin with the little cups to fit and a few of your other ideas and take it to her. I know she will love it and her dad will too. Thanks. Voted up and useful.
Many, many excellent tips! Voted up and useful! :)
Some great tips and money savers. I'd have never thought of the shower cap for that, but I have used plastic bags for the same job.
Thanks for your ideas, paying it forward! ;-)
These area great tips! I'm going to put the sheets/pillowcase one to good use. My linen closet is a disaster:) I'll be passing you hub onto my followers and I think Brett for sharing it (I ran across it in my feed from him!)

These are some of the most creative ideas I've seen for organizing household items without spending a cent! There are several that I think I could put to use right now. I love the muffin tin idea - what a great way to organize little craft items that seem to get lost in the junk drawer! Voted up and shared.
Putting sheets in the pillow case is a fabulous idea and simple too. I'm always trying to find the right set for the right sized bed. If I fold them in the pillowcase and make sure one tag is hanging out I won't have that problem.
You have some really clever Ideas here. Thanks for sharing.
These are awesome ideas. I love being able to re-purpose regular items in the home. Thanks for sharing these great ideas. I wonder what would happen if they brought back McGuyver as a female (you)?

What great creative ideas these are, especially the fitted sheets in the pillow cases. They always drive me nuts. Not anymore. Thanks!!
Very Nice Ideas. In other words the money saving ideas. Magnet Strip idea is great. We often lose Hairpins, common pins and needles as well. Using this idea we will always know where to get common pin or needle.
I'm always looking for great organizing tips and I LOVE the sheets in the pillow case idea. Great hub :)
What fantastic ideas! I always need a bit of inspiration when it comes to organising! I'm going to try all of these.
What a bunch of great ideas. I hate messiness. Thanks for sharing!

Love these solutions. Will definitely implement the bedding idea and also the wrapping paper one.
Thanks.
I like the pillowcase and muffin tin ideas. Thanks for posting.
This is quite possibly the best and most useful advice I could have hoped to find today! I am so bad about spending money in the hope of getting organized and then not using the things I buy b/c they weren't really what I needed. This advice will help me with that so much because I have everything on hand to get me started and if it doesn't work out (but I think these tactics all will!), I'm not out a single dime. Great job!
ah! the pillow case trick and the magnetic strip! pure gold I tell ya!
What absolutely wonderful ideas -- I particularly love the wrapping paper one -- I've stumbled over it or torn it for years -- definitely gonna do that one. Great Hub and voted UP. Best, Sis
Great ideas! I love the sheets in the pillowcases. I'm stealing that this second! Another thing that I do is that I keep all my spices in little metal tins, all labeled. I have magnetic strips above my stove and all my tins neatly aligned. Saves precious cabinet space for those of us with small kitchens and my spices are convenient.
some useful tips. thanks for sharing
SusieQ42, Great ideas! I am all for organization! These are some good practical nifty suggestions! Thank You for sharing, Peace & Blessings!
We are in the process of selling our home and keeping things organized is a challenge. Thank you for the tips. Your hub takes a lot of the stress out preparing my house for sale.

SusieQ42 great hub packed with wonderful and useful ways to utilize everyday things around the house. Thanks for sharing
Great post thank you. Im going to get right on with the sheet idea I hate the fitted ones and trying to keep them tidy.
I love these ideas. Thanks for the useful, low-cost information. So many low-cost ideas seem kinda...cheap-looking. These ideas actually seem like they would look good in the home.
What terrific ideas. :) I love them all. I also search the local Good will on a regular basis looking for plastic storage crates or bins, little square plastic trays, and so forth. Finding them for 10-25% of their original price is great fun and then using them to organize the contents of my closets and cabinets is a lifesaver.
I love these kind of ideas..using things for different purposes and saving money.
These are amazingly creative ideas. In these time where we have to be very aware of money/budget these kids of ideas are wonderful. Voted up and useful.
