What is Skype and How do I use It?
By SusieQ42
When I received an email invitation from a friend to download Skype I did a little research. I wanted to know more about it to see if it was something I might be interested in and this is what I learned.
Skype is a video based, one- on-one or group video based chat or instant messaging used on your computer, ipad, mobile phone or television. Use it to chat in person with other Skype users for free or pay a subscription fee for making calls to anyone in the world! It's both a calling plan and video based chat room that many people are enjoying for personal use, school and work. From conference calls to classroom based educational programs to just plain keeping in touch with family and friends, Skype is becoming more and more popular all the time.
You can use Skype video calling on your PC, your mobile phone, and your television. What will you need to do this? You need access to the internet, a web cam and a microphone attached to your device. Once you have your web cam set up, download the software and search for friends and relatives who also have Skype to talk with them. Skype's help center offers a ton of advice on getting started! You can also make video presentations for work or school with live video chat with Skype. The newest version of Skype is said to offer more vibrant videos and a clear, crisper sound. You can click on the link underneath the photo above to check it out.
Use Skype on your mobile phone! For those who have a mobile phone that is compatible with Skype, mobile phone video based chatting and phone calls are affordable for most of us. For The subscription costs less than $5.00 a month. This inexpensive phone service is available for those who have Verizon, Android, iphones, an ipad or Symbian service. Check out Skype's variety of calling plans when you access the link above.
Skype's Window based software can be used on Windows, Mac and Linux systems. Their software allows users to enjoy those special moments with friends and loved ones from anywhere in the world whether they are tourists, military members, or and anyone else that is a Skype member. With live chat customer support, you can get answers to any questions you may have, which you probably will. I know Skype has been around awhile, but it can still be confusing to use. I've included some web cams and microphones from Amazon and Ebay below for anyone who is interested in trying out Skype and they are very affordable. You don't have to be wealthy to try it out!

Hello Susie. We use Skype to talk with family members who live in Hawaii and other places. It is really a great tool. Thanks for the review.
My daughter wants me to get Skype so she and her mother can talk, which means I would lose the use of my computer forever!
No!
Welcome Hyphenbird and Will Starr! I'm so glad you're enjoying Skype, Hyphenbird. Although it's been around for a while now I don't think that many people have it. At least not that I know anyway. Will, they can also use it on their mobile phone so maybe not all is forever lost!
Great information. There is a lot of buzz about Skype among my friends, but I never knew much about it.
Good morning phdast7. Thanks for visiting. I've not tried it but guess what? I'm thinking that may be next on my wish list.
We use skype to talk to my daughter (cloverleaf) in Canada, it's fantastic!
thank you for sharing and voted up.
I'm so pleased to have a visit from you! We don't have it YET! What a great way to visit with family and actually see them at the same time! It's a great way to save money on gas to visit those living far away. Yours, Susieq42

Surely who ever you want to talk has to have skype as well?
