Four Car Insurance Companies: What do they Offer their Customers?

The Top Four Car Insurance Companies

Do you receive emails or ads in the mail trying to persuade you to change car insurance companies? There are many commercials on television and on the internet telling us to change car insurance companies in order to save money. It seems like I see them every day! The temptation is there because we may be able to get a lower rate. I certainly am tempted because my monthly payment may be lower. At times I check them out just to see if I can save a buck, but I don't take them up on their offer. Why? Let me tell you why.

I spoke with an insurance agent one day and found that car insurance companies take into consideration our credit rating and how often we change insurance companies. They also take into account how long we've been with our current insurance company and some even look at how long we've lived at our current address. This is why I don't take them up on their offers. I feel that it is important to stay with one company for a long time, even if it means paying a little more.

It still may be beneficial to you to change companies. You may not be getting the greatest service or the greatest price. I've done some research on some of the top car insurance companies. I've noted some of their "perks" to make your car insurance shopping experience a little easier.

1.) Geico: I am a Geico customer and I've never had any problems with them. They offer good rates and great customer service, quickly answering the phone and answering any questions I have had. They are fast and perfectly sound in their business relationships. I love them because when I call their customer service desk I get through right away, speak with a live person, am never put on hold, and my questions are answered quickly. Geico has also gone mobile so policies can be easily accessed by our cell phone or online from your personal computer.

2.) Allstate: Allstate will pay its customers for good driving by sending a check in the mail periodically. This is great, although we may have to pay a higher premium for their insurance. I was an Allstate customer for years and my experience with Allstate was great. My daughter, had an accident with my car soon after she got her license and Allstate covered everything. I didn't even have to pay a deductible, although I never found out why. I loved Allstate for this reason. I was given a loaner car and never paid out of pocket for anything. We can also get a free lifetime membership for Allstates "Good Hands Roadside Assistance." It goes into effect as soon as you purchase a policy.

3.) Progressive: This company has commercials on television nearly every day. Progressive offers a deal called "name your own price." You call for a quote and if it's not to your liking, make an offer, or "name your own price." Progressive also has a new snapshot device that you plug into your car. It keeps track of your good driving habits for 30 days and on the very next day your savings of up to 30% kicks in. After 60 days remove the device and return it to the company and Progressive figures up your savings. This savings is good as long as you are a customer.

4.) Nationwide: I see Nationwide commercials often too. Remember the "vanishing" guy? This company has a deal called a vanishing deductible. For every year of good driving Nationwide will lower your deductible $100.00. It goes into effect right away, as soon as you become a customer. Nationwide also has a great "bundle" deal. When you combine your auto, home and life insurance policies you can get a savings of up to 25%.

I hope this information helps should you decide to shop for different car insurance. You are welcome to leave comments sharing any experience you've had with companies.

You have done a good job of pointing out the differences and possible savings. I might could get a lower rate if I look around. I have been with my company for about 20 years and hear it is good to change occasionally.

Wow! Twenty years is a long time! I think I was with Allstate that long. When we were married my husband wanted to go with his insurance company so I left Allstate, but I still miss them. Thanks for visiting, Hyphenbird.

It's good to shop around. Keeps the company on its toes. The thing is to beware of a cartel, where they all put their prices up simultaneously. Best to keep them guessing.
